Ashraf ut tafasir is written by Molana Ashraf Ali Thanvi who is one of the fore-fathers of Jamaat ut Tabligh (also known as Tablighi Jamaat). Thanwi graduated from the Darul Uloom Deoband in 1884. He has written numerous books on Qur’an, Hadith, Fiqh and other religious aspects.
